The Siam International Math and Science Olympiad – Science Division (SIMSO Science) is a premier international science competition for students in Grades 3–12. Over the years, it has grown into a global platform that fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills while encouraging cultural and academic exchange.

It all begins with the National Round—an online multiple-choice test (30 questions in 75 minutes) covering core areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, and space sciences. Top performers are awarded medals and certificates, with the chance to qualify for the International Round.

Finalists advance to the International Round in Thailand, where they compete in both multiple-choice and open-ended questions. Here, students face advanced challenges, connect with peers worldwide, and showcase their knowledge on an international platform.

Register for the National Round

  1. Register for the National Round

    through Contest Bag to join SIMSO Science. Pick the May round, secure your place, and get ready to compete in the Olympiad.

    Each grade level has a clear syllabus of topics. Review carefully—they are key to preparing for the challenge.

  3. Practice with Resources

    Your account includes access to past papers for your grade. Use them to build confidence and sharpen your skills.

  4. Review Your Performance

    Practice tests help you measure your progress before the real event. They give you confidence and show you where you need to improve.

  5. Compete in the National Round

    Take the official online test and prove your science ability. This stage decides who qualifies for the SIMSO Global Round.

  6. Advance to the Global Finals

    Top achievers qualify for the International Round in Thailand, where finalists compete globally and celebrate their success with awards.

SIMSO Science is open to students from Grade 3 to Grade 12. Each grade competes using a syllabus specifically designed for their level, ensuring that the content matches their age and academic background.

02. What domains are tested in SIMSO Science?

The Olympiad focuses on biology, chemistry, physics, earth & environmental sciences, and space sciences, with advanced topics included for higher grades.

03. How is SIMSO Science structured?

SIMSO has two rounds: the National Round (online, 30 multiple-choice questions in 75 minutes) and the International Round (in-person in Thailand, with 30 multiple-choice questions plus 5 open-ended questions).

 

04. How long is the test and how many questions are there?

  • National Round: 30 multiple-choice questions in 75 minutes.
  • International Round: 30 multiple-choice + 5 open-ended questions in 75 minutes.

05. How is the scoring system?

  • National Round: Correct = +5 points

  • International Round: MCQs = +5 points, Open-ended = +10 points

  • No penalty for blanks

06. What awards are given?

Participants receive certificates and medals based on performance:

  • Gold Medal – awarded to top scorers (130+ points in National Round).

  • Silver Medal – for strong performers (115–125 points).

  • Bronze Medal – for good performance (100–110 points).

  • Achiever Medal – for participants scoring below medal thresholds.

  • Merit Certificates – given to the top 50% of students.

  • Participation Certificates – for all remaining participants.

07. What happens in the Global Round?

The International Round is held in Thailand, where top achievers compete with peers from around the world, gain international recognition, and join cultural and academic exchange activities.

08. How do I register for SIMSO Science?

Registration is done through Contest Bag at www.contestbag.com. You can choose to register for the National Round and later for the Global Round if you qualify.

09. When does SIMSO Science take place?

The National Round of SIMSO Science will be held online on May 2, 2026. The International Round will take place in Thailand from August 7 to 11, 2026.
